Esther Elizabeth (Shwed) Karsten

Esther Elizabeth (Shwed) Karsten, 78, of Janesville passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Huntington Place in Janesville. Esther was born in North Fond du Lac, WI on November 25, 1933, the daughter of John and Anne (Toth) Shwed. She graduated from Oakfield High School in 1952. She married Robert Howard Emil Karsten on September 29, 1956 at Church of Peace in Fond du Lac. Esther was employed as a teacher’s aide with the Hartford Joint #1 School District before moving to Janesville where she worked as a teacher’s aide and later for the Diet Center. Esther enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards and games, gardening, bird watching, her pets throughout the years, but above all Esther loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother and the love of Bob’s life for over 55 years.  Esther was a member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Esther is survived by her husband, Robert, her daughters, Debra (Michael) Wilson of Bettendorf, IA, Lynn (Daniel) Nettesheim of Colgate, WI, grandchildren, Natasha (Daniel) Wenninger, Amanda (Adam) Putman, Meghan Margelowsky, Victoria Wilson, Ethan Margelowsky, Andrew Wilson, Kiley Nettesheim, and great-granddaughter, Adelyn Esther Wenninger. Esther is further survived by her sisters, Katherine Mashock, Rose Karsten, and brother, Joseph Shwed as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anne (Toth) Shwed, her brother John Shwed and sisters, Mary Schaan, Anna Reinhardt and Mathilda Feucht.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Huntington Place – Memory care unit # 3 and Heartland Hospice for their loving care of Esther. In lieu of  flowers, memorials may be given to Heartland Hospice, St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
The family will greet visitors at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 709 Milton Avenue, Janesville from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Services will follow at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Church with Pastor Mark Lindner officiating. A light lunch will be served in the Church fellowship hall following the service.
